DIY Bar Shelves

My vision for decorating my dining room always included a bar area, but it took some time for me to determine exactly how to execute it in the space. With an “open concept” house, I needed to make sure the colors and materials used in the dining room matched well with that used in the living room.

I ultimately determined that the best match would be gold and glass shelving mounted to the wall. I measured the wall and then searched online everywhere for a cost-effective solution in gold and glass.

I wasn’t able to find what I was looking for, so I decided to get creative and make it my own way.

I started with iron pipe shelving brackets (brackets only) from Amazon. I chose the “3 set 3 tier” as this was the right size for my space. I only planned on adding 2 shelves as a third would put the bottles too high for reach in the spot I planned to mount.

For the shelves I ordered a pack of (2) 12 X 48 tempered glass shelves and for the final touch I also ordered a pack of wall mounted wine glass racks.

Next I laid out all the individual metal pieces pieces and spray painted them completely (this took a few days as I coated each side twice and let them fully dry between coats).

Next I assembled the brackets as instructed.

I mounted the brackets to the wall, and used silicone “dots” in between the glass shelving and the metal brackets to prevent scraping. Lastly I mounted 3 of the 4 wine glass racks.

I took notes from my copy of “Death and Co” to determine what starter liquor’s I needed to complete my home bar. After making a list, I put in an order and stocked the new shelves, just in time for Christmas!
